Made it to Macon….

Well, we made it to Macon, GA around 7:00 pm last night. 14 hours of driving with only 2 stops. Taylor & Zach did amazing- they really are great travelers, and they watched a few videos, played highway bingo with Mommy, snacked and took a nap. There was virtually no complaining, and that’s pretty good if you ask me coming from a 5 year old and a 2.5 year old. Lauren on the other hand had a pretty difficult trip. She did not like being confined to her seat, and she did not like being far away from Mommy. I spent a lot of time climbing into the back seat to feed her, play with her, and to try to calm her down. I even nursed her while we were driving (gasp), and took her out of her seat a few times to give her a little break (double gasp). She spent quite a bit of time crying, and didn’t take a single long nap.. only 1/2 hour cat naps here and there- Yuck! We arrived at our hotel in Macon, GA, and were pleasantly surprised to find it was a nice new place (we only paid $56 for the night). This morning Ben took the kids down for free breakfast, and we hit the road by 9:00am. I am currently writing this blog in the car, and we are about 3 hours from Orlando! We are planning on telling Taylor about Disney once we hit Florida.

Here are the 10 things I have learned so far on this trip.

1. You sometimes have to break the rules when dealing with a 6 month old for 14 hours in a car. You sometimes have to take them out of the car seat, and this is O.K.

2. It is possible to climb over the seat of the highlander 25 times in 1 day, and squeeze between 2 car seats and feed a baby, while your 2.5 year old peppers you with questions and pats the baby on the head.

3. The Waffle House is as frequent as McDonalds down South.

4. 3 children in 1 hotel room with 2 beds is INSANE.

5. Trying to have 2 children sleep in 1 bed is stupid. We switched that up, and slept 1 adult & 1 child to a bed after about 5 minutes.

6. When sleeping with your rambunctious 5 year old it is best to sleep with your back to her, to avoid being slapped in the face & head butted.

7. It is possible to drink a frosty with a straw.

8. Truckers still know the universal elbow pump means honk your horn.

9. It is sometimes better to listen to Taylor sing in her falsetto than it is to hear Lauren screaming.

10. Amazingly enough, sometimes if you turn the radio up loudly enough the kids will stop crying.
